Free Walking Tour
Our Free Walking Tour is designed for anyone interested in the past and present of the city. It’s a mix of history, storytelling, and local tips – an ideal first walk to understand the city and its history.
Olomouc is one of the oldest cities in the Czech lands. After being heavily damaged during the Thirty Years’ War, it managed to rebuild itself. The city developed as an important centre of church life, drawing on traditions linked to Great Moravia, and later became the seat of the Archbishopric of Olomouc. Religion played a key role in shaping the city, and many of its historic buildings, streets, and institutions are still closely connected to the church.
We start at the city model on Horní náměstí, opposite the Astronomical Clock, and walk through the historic centre. Along the way, we’ll talk about key moments that shaped Olomouc, including its role as a heavily fortified city in the 18th century and the influence of the second-oldest university in the Czech lands.
And of course, we’ll make sure you know where to find good ice cream and where to go for a drink.
